A few weeks ago, a friend and I were on a long catch-up call. We talked about everything: home, relocation, family, careers, and that familiar mix of nostalgia and new beginnings.

Then our conversation drifted to those experiences when the excitement of something new begins to fade, and the questions start creeping in:
1.    Did I make the right decision?
2.    What if I had stayed?
3.    What if this doesn’t work out?

If you’ve ever changed organisation, taken a new role, started a new business, or begun life in a new country, you probably know that feeling too well. You were bold, convinced, and ready, but somewhere along the way, uncertainty shows up to test your resolve.

It’s called “transition doubt”, that in-between space where your past feels familiar, your present feels uncertain, and your future is still unfolding. On the call, we were able to establish three important truths about such phase:

1. It’s normal. Doubt isn’t weakness; it’s proof that you care deeply about your path. Most people just don’t talk about it.
2. It’s temporary. The discomfort fades as new routines form and small wins begin to stack up.
3. It’s instructive. Doubt often reveals what you value most: stability, growth, belonging, or purpose. Don’t rush past it; learn from it.

So, if you ever find yourself replaying “what could have been,” pause and remind yourself: You made that decision for a reason. Big moves sometimes come with big doubts, and that’s okay, and I will add, if the doubt lingers, talk to someone who’s walked this path before, a mentor, a trusted colleague, or a friend. You’ll be surprised how perspective changes everything.

Finally, I will say remain focused and give yourself time to grow into your new season. You’ve got this!
